April 2022
It is nearly May already! As we thought it would, the academic year is flying by, and the summer holidays will be here before we know it. We have lots to pack into this final term that I would like to tell you about.
One of the staff team’s priorities will be to ensure the smooth transition of our school leavers into their new settings. If your child is leaving us in July and you haven’t already done so, please let us know which school your child will be attending. This gives us the opportunity to talk with the children about the new experiences they will have in September, as well as allowing us to chase or set up teacher visits if we do not hear from the school.
If you have any worries at all about your child’s transition into school then please don’t hesitate to come and have a chat with me – we all fully appreciate what an exciting, but heart-wrenching time it can be for parents and carers. We actively encourage teachers and other educational professionals to come and visit our children as often as they can, as well as facilitate children’s visits to their new school where possible.
School Readiness
Children who are going to school in September this year have already started to work with their key workers to prepare for their next journey ensuring that they are confident and ready. Your child’s key person will log observations and activities on Tapestry that you may know they can already do. We do this to reinforce what we have been working on with the children to ensure that it is embedded and that they are secure within a certain area. Each practitioner will be individually planning to prepare their children for the transition, as it’s a very personal process. We know that this can be a scary time as well as exciting. We will be working on children’s self-confidence and self-esteem along with self-help skills.
You as parents can also help with this at home by allowing your child to do things for themselves, such as giving your child the opportunity to put on their own coat and shoes. I know this can be time-consuming and testing when rushing out of the door but allowing an extra five or ten minutes, for tasks your child can do themselves, in your daily routine will increase your child’s independence and confidence.
If you have anything you would like to discuss regarding your child’s school readiness please come and speak to me.
